How Many Mg of Omega 3 Per Day?


At least 1,000 mg of EPA and 500 mg of DHA. That’s how many mg of omega-3 per day you’ll want to take to get credit for daily happiness creation at Always Greater.

Getting enough omega-3 to see results

In “The Depression Cure”, by Dr. Stephen Ilardi, he says that for EPA, “the best supported daily dosage, used across a number of different studies, is 1000 to 2000 milligrams (mg) of EPA per day.” (p. 76).

He also says that “every published study that’s combined EPA and DHA in a roughly 2:1 ratio has seen an impressive antidepressant effect.”

And, finally, using this rationale, Dr. Ilardi concludes by saying, “I recommend a starting omega-3 dose of 1000 mg of EPA and 500 mg of DHA each day to all of my patients.”

When you buy fish oil supplements to get your omega-3, make sure that the supplements are “molecularly distilled”.

As Dr. Ilardi says, “This designation simply means the manufacturer has refined the oil by taking out the contaminants and impurities all the way down to the molecular level. … [so] you don’t have to worry about the oil being rancid.” (p. 78)

Once you start looking at omega-3 supplements, you’ll see that there’s an overwhelming amount of omega-3 supplements available.
